Each block opens with the citeable sentence. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a rebate quote, or permission to skip emergency care.

The questions people actually type

Often some exercise is part of rehab, but which movements, how much, and when is a clinical decision. Do not copy a stranger’s program.

Can I exercise while in rehab?

Physiotherapy is one of the common first-line options for many musculoskeletal back-pain presentations in Australia, but it is not a cure-all and it is not the right first step when emergency red flags are present.

Can physio help back pain?

Usually no — most people can book a physiotherapist directly. A GP referral can still matter for Medicare chronic-disease items, some insurers, or workplace and compensation pathways.

Do I need a GP referral for physio in Australia?

Many extras policies rebate physiotherapy, but rebates, annual limits, and waiting periods are set by the fund — not by this site and not by a universal “yes”.

Is physiotherapy covered by private health?

Most knee rehab conversations cover swelling control, range, quadriceps and hip strength, and a graded return to walking, stairs, work, or sport — sequenced by a clinician, not a checklist on the internet.

Knee injury rehab basics?

Post-surgical physiotherapy is typically a graded plan set with your surgeon and physiotherapist: protect healing tissues, restore range, then reload. Timelines belong to your treating team, not a website.

Physio after surgery — rehab pathway?

Sports physiotherapy is still physiotherapy — the same registered profession — with extra attention to sport-specific loading, return-to-play criteria, and the coastal sports people actually do here (surf, gym, field sports, running).

Physio for sports injuries on the Gold Coast?

Seek urgent care or call 000 for chest pain, sudden severe headache, collapse, new bowel or bladder loss with back pain, saddle numbness, rapidly worsening weakness, or trauma you cannot assess at home. This list is not complete and is not a self-triage tool.

Red flags — when to go to ED?

Short rest from the aggravating movement can settle irritation; persistent pain, night pain, or loss of reach is a reason to get assessed rather than rest indefinitely.

Shoulder pain — physio or rest?

A first session is usually a conversation about your history, a physical assessment of how you move, a working explanation of findings, and an agreed plan — not a guaranteed “fix” in one visit.

What happens in a first physio appointment?

Book an assessment when pain, stiffness, weakness, or a movement limit lasts more than a few days, keeps returning, or follows a sprain, strain, or surgery — and go to emergency care instead if you have red-flag symptoms.

When should I see a physiotherapist?

Funding, labels, and suburbs

Physiotherapists diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal (and other) presentations; accredited exercise physiologists focus on clinical exercise prescription. Both are registered professions. Overlap exists; the right first contact depends on your situation.

Difference between physio and exercise physiology (high-level)?

Nobody honest can name your session count from a webpage. Some people need a short episode of care; others need a longer, reviewed plan. Only the treating practitioner can estimate, and estimates change.

How many sessions might I need?

Desk-related neck and upper-back discomfort is a common physiotherapy presentation. Assessment looks at symptoms, work setup, and how you move — not at a single “perfect posture” rule.

Neck pain from desk work?

This hub does not list or rank clinics. Use the AHPRA register, then filter by suburb, transport, and whether the practice treats your presentation.

Physio near Southport / Broadbeach?

Return-to-sport is usually a set of criteria (pain, swelling, strength, control, sport-specific tasks) agreed with your clinician — not a public checklist that clears you to compete.

Return-to-sport checklist?

Both are registered physiotherapists in Australia. “Sports” usually signals extra focus on athletic load and return-to-play, not a different licence.

Sports physio vs general physio?

Wear clothing you can move in and that lets the clinician see the relevant joint — shorts for a knee, a loose top for a shoulder — plus any braces, imaging reports, or medication lists you already have.

What to wear to physio?

Work-related injuries are often managed under a GP, physiotherapist, and (if accepted) a workers compensation insurer. This site cannot lodge a claim or estimate time off work.

Workplace injury physiotherapy?

Local colour, still not a diagnosis

Paddling, overhead pressing, and long desk hours are common Gold Coast load stories. They are starting points for a history, not diagnoses.

Surfing / gym postural pain?

Longer versions live on the session planner and the service hubs. Official registers are linked in the footer.
