Conditions
Knee rehab is specific. Internet knees are not.
Search results mash ACL reconstructions, kneecap pain, and a weekend twist into one “knee physio” phrase. The shared vocabulary is swelling, range, strength, and graded return. The shared protocol does not exist.

Basics, not a program
A clinician may talk about:
- how the knee swells after load
- whether you can straighten and bend it
- quadriceps and hip capacity
- walking, stairs, and work demands before sport demands
That list is orientation. It is not your home exercise sheet.
Instability and locking
True locking, giving way after trauma, or a knee you cannot weight-bear after injury is a reason for prompt medical assessment. Do not wait for a content site to “clear” you.
Imaging
X-ray and MRI have roles. They are not souvenirs. Interpretation sits with the people who can examine you.
Questions, answers first
What people ask on this topic
Most knee rehab conversations cover swelling, range, strength, and a graded return to walking, stairs, work, or sport — sequenced by a clinician.
Knee injury rehab basics?
Often yes, in a form the treating physiotherapist chooses. Copying a stranger’s single-leg squat program is not assessment.
Can I exercise while in rehab?
After an operation, follow the surgeon’s precautions plus the nominated physiotherapist. We will not publish your week number.
